Review of Pa Pa Ya BKC
Pa Pa Ya is a fine dining restaurant that has 3 outlets in Mumbai, BKC being the latest one. This place serves an array of Asian, Japanese, Thai and Chinese cuisines with lots of delicious options for vegetarians. Basically, PaPaYa adds its own twist and fusion to the authentic dishes and creates a sublime version of them. The minimalist changes and play of flavors and textures that are done to the dishes, makes it superior to elevate the entire dining experience here. The thought process in designing, presenting and plating each and every dish considering all the small elements important makes the whole experience of dining a memorable one.
The ambiance here is very bright, nice and very peaceful. The staff guys here are extremely knowledgeable, cheerful and knows their job very well. Mr. Siddhart, who attended us was one guy who had in-depth knowledge about the cuisine and dishes that were served to us.
Usually, it is a myth that Sushi is mainly non-vegetarian, well this place has proved all of it wrong by serving the most delicious vegetarian sushi and rolls. It will be unfair if I don’t start my review with Sushi’s. So apparently Sushi was first originated in California and later on in Japan, and the rice that is used are different from what we usually have it and has a lot of starch and are sticky.
So this is what we had ordered:
Tree of assorted vegetarian sushi and rolls.
Just couldn’t get my eyes off this spectacularly presented sushi and rolls.
They had served us 2 sushi’s:
Vegetarian California Rolls
Crispy Veg Maki
Avocado Nilgiri Rolls and
Asparagus Nilgiri Rolls.
These were served with Wasabi, ginger, and soy.
So traditionally this bite-size sushi and roll are supposed to be dipped in Soy sauce mixed with Wasabi and eaten with hands in just one bite, to avoid the stuffings to fall apart. Well, to clean your palette you have to eat a piece of ginger and then try another roll. Well In Japan, eating sushi with ginger is considered as bad manners as ginger is supposed to be eaten only to cleanse your palette.
Savored all the above and so loved it.
Asparagus corn and burnt spring onion:- This was a visual treat to eyes as it was very appealing. Tasted delicious as well.
Truffle Imitation Oakwood Boas with Stuffing of Shiitake mushrooms:-
This was one of the best baos’ I have ever eaten and the stuffing was finely minced and flavored. The Baos were very soft and melted in the mouth. Extra marks for the coating of cocoa on bao’s to make it look like oak and give a visual delight. These are the small little details actually make any dish superior.
Crispy Lotus stem served with Avocado cream: Must have it here as the lotus stems are dehydrated and tossed in honey and soy. The avocado cream (that is vegan) served was so airy and light that it gave a nice balance of textures in the mouth.
Konnyakuyaki Tomato and Basil: This is also a must try, an assortment of different cheese served with tempura ball, served with tomato sauce and presented with Parmesan Tuille. Tasted absolutely delicious.
Edamame Chickpea Sliders: In-house burger bread served with edamame chickpea and layered with hummus gave a nice texture to the slider and they had served it with in house potato chips, the way any burgers are served.
Beer Battered Avocado Tacos: This again was a winner with tacos made with rice flour, that was so light and crispy and stuffed with beer battered avocado. A must try here.
Love Potion: A beautifully presented Vodka based cocktail that has litchi and berries.
Hibiscus Sour: A nice cocktail made with hibiscus and vanilla tea.
Papaya: Refreshing drink with a strong flavor of thyme and lemongrass.
Spicy Delight: A refreshing guava drink that is surely a winner.
Chocolate Ball on Fire:
A chocolate bomb that was delightful and absolutely sinful.
Aerated Chocolate Matcha:
Chocolate mousse with a hint of Jack Daniel in it, go for it. It is served with coffee cream, vanilla custard and cookie crumble. Sinful heaven- Must try here.
Overall, a spectacular experience here and full marks for food, service, and ambiance. Will surely visit this place again and will recommend it to everyone. Dining here was a beautiful experience that will last forever, especially with a staff like Mr. Siddhart who enhanced our knowledge about the cuisine and dishes.
