Line a pan or dish with baking paper.

Combine the condensed milk, sugar, and butter in a medium saucepan over low heat. Heat for around 8 minutes, stirring often.

Add the chocolate and stir until melted. Remove from heat and add the peppermint essence. Check the taste, and add more peppermint if desired.
Step 4 of 5
Pour into the pan, sprinkle over crushed candy cane, and chill until set.
Step 5 of 5
Cut into squares and store in an airtight container.
