“Life is like a jar of pickle-full of flavors..spices and sweetness”.

I love pickles to death and for me it elevates any simple food to another level. Try serving this pickle with comfort food like dal-rice or khichdi to enjoy your meal experience.

Well I am so really excited about this post and also have a shy confession to make.

1)I have never eaten Turnips before…wonder why!!

2)I have never made any pickles before too….but I love them!!

Honestly I had no clue how this concoction would turn out to be but I’ve always wanted to make this since months. Since coking being my first love and I blog about all my  cooking  experiences with you all..this is one of the recipe I swoon about. My first hand experience in making this easy-peasy pickle was a good start towards my pickle making endeavour. You guys must check out the recipe to know what I mean.

This turnip pickle is very easy to make. It has unique flavors from delicious date sweetness to bursting strong flavors of garlic and tad sourness from Vinegar.

Looking forward to experiment many more pickles this year. Stay tuned!!

Ingredients-
500 grams-Turnips
10-Garlic cloves
1 tbsp-mustard oil
1 tbsp-vinegar
1 tbsp-sugar
2 tsp-Nigella seeds (kalonji)
1tsp-cumin seeds (jeera)
1spn-pepper powder
10-dates (khajur)
Salt as per taste

Method-
1)Peel the turnips in thick and round slices.
2)Rub it with salt and store for 3-4 hours.
3)Then mix the sugar and the spices together.
4)Ground the dates with a small amount of vinegar.
5)Heat 1 tsp mustard oil in a pan and fry the ground garlic until it turns brown and then add the turnips.
6)Once it becomes dry…add vinegar..the remaining mustard oil..mixed sugar…spices and dates.
7)Remove from the pan and transfer it in an air tight jar.
8)Keep it out for 24 hours and then it is ready to use.
9)I prefer keeping the pickled jar in the fridge.
