Thalassa-Mesmerizing Greek experience in Goa!!

This post is about Thalassa, a restaurant that I was planning to visit for a long time.

This Greek taverna restaurant is in Goa and is a part of Thalassa resort. The word “Taverna” has Latin roots, and it means a small restaurant that serves Greek food in a rustic setting, and Thalassa very well lives up to its meaning. It is very famous for its fantastic location, breathtaking views and scrumptious Greek food.  Thalassa is placed on rocky cliffs overlooking Vagator Beach and beautiful Arabian Sea. The white cane chairs and thatched roof adds to the beauty of the place.

This place is managed by Mariketty Grana, a very humble and hard-working lady who has tastefully set up the restaurant. It takes a bit of drive to reach the place but given you are in Goa, who’s complaining? A lovely selection of music, a view of the palm trees, gentle breeze and the pastel décor of the place surely leaves one spellbound.

The Food-

The menu has a wide range of options for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. The menu has a lot to offer and from appetizers and salads to grills and burgers, from pastas to pizzas,  mocktails to cocktails will surely leave you spoilt for choices.

We picked up a few dishes based on suggestions from Ms. Mariketty, who loves to interact with patrons visiting the restaurant. The staff is courteous and kind. Given its popularity amongst travellers, prior booking is strongly recommended (we had done ours a week prior to our visit). The bookings are well honored despite pressure from people looking for a spot visit.  We were offered to select a table, we picked the one in the centre which happened to be a perfect place for a surprise belly dance performance.

We ordered watermelon and feta salad and it was delicious, fresh and had subtle flavors.

The Tzatziki dip was good that was served with  freshly baked pita breads.

We were looking for some refreshing cocktails to sip on and ended up ordering watermelon and mint caprioska, long island ice tea and mint mojito.

The mood was already elevated at the thought of ordering these Cocktails, and the whole atmosphere seemed to pep up.

After our drinks hit the table and very soon hit us too, we ordered for burgers and pizza. The pizzas were topped with gooey cheese and burgers were crisp and loaded with vegetables.

The best dish for the evening was grilled Halloumi cheese with salad. Halloumi was grilled to perfection and was spiced up with dry herbs. I will recommend this dish for people looking for a unique starter.

The highlight of the evening was a belly dance performance at around 6.30 pm. We wish the duration of the dance was a bit longer.

Suggestions

1) Please reserve your table say a week ago, to avoid any disappointment.

2) Thalassa is best known as a sundowner’s party and is packed post 4 PM. The sunset does offer a beautiful view.

3) The pricing is premium but worth every penny was given the view and experience.
