Betaab Valley Kashmir – Love at first sight

Betaab Valley is a picturesque place for artists who strive to paint, writers who compelled to write, poets who want to recite a poem, and a place for lovers who yearn for romance.

Sometimes, You find Yourself in the middle of Nowhere, And, In the middle of this Nowhere, You find Yourself.

This is exactly how I felt when I saw the sight of Betaab Valley in Kashmir and fell in love with it. To breathe the air here is to breathe poetry.

Let me take you back to an interesting story about how the name of the valley was derived:

Betaab Valley derives its name from a famous Bollywood Movie, “BETAAB”, an Urdu word meaning restless, impatient. The star cast includes starring Sunny Deol and Amrita Singh. The movie was shot beautifully in this area. Since then this place is called Betaab Valley. The producer of the movie had also built two huts for the movie and the whole team had stayed in this valley for about 2 months for the shoot of the movie and its very beautiful and famous song. Those wooden huts still exist.
Being there really evokes the beauty of the song “Jab Hum Jawan Honge, Jaane Kahan Honge
This song still elicits fond memories of those early teenage days.
The song was picturized in the hut built by the producer of the movie. Although the hut has been demolished a long time back, a rest house has come up in that place. It was locked while we had visited, but you can click some nice pictures here and reminisce about the feel of the song.

Some facts to know while visiting Betaab Valley:

Betaab valley is about 10km from the center of Pahalgam. You need to hire a local tourist vehicle to come here.

Bargaining is absolutely necessary with the Union drivers as they will quote a very high price initially. See to it that you do not waste a lot of time in the bargain as they have nothing to lose, you lose your valuable time.

At the main entrance, there is a counter from which you need to buy a ticket to enter this valley.

You will also find a few local vendors selling Kashmiri shawls, dress materials, some souvenirs, and stoles. Their stuff is decent, but you need to bargain a lot with them.

There are small refreshments joints for tea, coffee, and snacks.

You can also carry your own eatables and have a small picnic in the valley.
