Any dish prepares with Sweet Potatoes tastes good and it naturally imparts sweetness hence little different from potatoes. Use green chilies and spices to balance the sweetness of the sweet potatoes. A perfect blend of spices, lemon juice, and sweet potatoes together make a tempting Tikkis.

Sweet Potato tikkis taste best when served with Vrat Wali Coconut Coriander Chutney Serve the tikkis hot as they are crispy and taste really good. If it’s not for Vrat, then you can sprinkle some chat masala on top of it.
Serving Suggestions:
If you are serving these Sweet Potato Tikkis for fasting then serve it with Farali yogurt chutney or coriander chutney especially made for Vrat.
However, if you are serving it as a high tea snack or after-school snack to kids, serve them with tomato ketchup, coriander or mint chutney, or any dip of your choice.
You can also prepare Sweet Potato Tikkis Chat similar to how we prepare Aloo Tikki Chaat. Add some onions, tomatoes, tamarind or date chutney, coriander chutney, and garnish it with finely chopped coriander leaves and Aloo Bhujia or Nylon Sev. YOu can also add thick sweetened yogurt for making it Dahi Sweet Potato Tikki on a hot summer day. It will taste absolutely divine and refreshing.
You can also add these Tikkis into a roll or a wrap and make a Frankie by adding finely cut onions, mayonnaise, mint chutney, and many such ingredients. Serve the way you like them and try to include them in your diet.
Vrat Wali Sweet Potato Tikkis
Ingredients
- 4-5 medium sweet potatoes
- 1 tsp cumin powder | jeera powder
- 2 finely chopped green chilies
- 1 tsp Sendha Namak | Rock Salt
- 2 tbsp cooking oil or ghee
- a handful of finely chopped coriander leaves
Instructions
- Firstly, Boil Sweet potatoes in a pressure pan for 1-2 whistles and then switch off the flame. Once the pressure pan cools down, remove boiled sweet potatoes and keep it on a plate.
- Once the sweet potatoes cool down, peel off the skin.
- Take a broad vessel and mash all the sweet potatoes with a masher.
- Now add cumin powder, rock salt, finely chopped green chilies, and coriander leaves in the mashed sweet potatoes.
- Now shape them into small tikkis and keep them on a plate.
- Heat a nonstick pan, add oil, and place all the tikkis on it and cook it on one side till it becomes brown.
- Shallow fry sweet potato tikkis on both the sides till they turn brown in color and are cooked evenly.
- Once done garnish with fresh coriander and serve it with Vrat chutney.

Step-by-Step Recipe of Sweet Potato Tikkis

2. Once the sweet potatoes cool down, peel off the skin.

5. Now shape them into small tikkis and keep them on a plate.

Recipe Notes
- You can also roast sweet potatoes in an oven if you like the flavor.
- However, I prefer boiling them as it’s really quicker as compared to roasting.
- You can use regular salt if you are not making this tikkis for Vrat or Fasting.
- I prefer pan-frying, you can also deep fry this sweet potato tikkis.
- Serve this tikkis hot with Vrat chutney, if you are making it for Vrat, else you can also serve with any dip or tomato ketchup.
- You can add more spices like dhania powder, red chili powder, garam masala if you are not making this tikkis for Vrat.
- I have not used any flour to bind the tikkis, however, you can use Rajgira flour or Samo flour that can be consumed during fasting.
