Banoffee pie is an English dessert pie made from bananas, caramel sauce, and fresh cream. This is either laid on a crumbled biscuit and butter base or a buttery digestive biscuit base.
This English Dessert Pie is such a delicious and tasty dessert that can be made all year round. I have tried this for the first time and it came out to be delicious. and an absolute favorite with my kids. However, I am still going to try but with different variations like chocolate, coffee, or even both together. Meanwhile, enjoy the simple recipe of Banoffee Pie. It is a favorite British Dessert amongst many.
What is Banoffee Pie?
The term Banoffee means a combination of Banana and toffee. Crust Digestive biscuit crust is topped with, caramel sauce layers of sliced bananas and whipped cream. All this together when served with a drizzle of chocolate syrup is termed as Banoffee pie.
Why is it called an English Dessert Pie?
Banoffee Pie was invented in East Sussex, England in the early 70s. Nigel Mackenzie was the British restaurateur behind the banoffee pie – a dessert created in 1972 out of necessity rather than by design. Hence it is also termed as English Dessert Pie.
Recipe of Banoffee Pie | British Dessert
Ingredients:
1 Small pack of Digestive biscuits
125g butter, melted
2 bananas
1 Small cup of grated chocolates
1 cup double cream
CARAMEL FILLING
1 can sweeten condensed milk
1 cup brown sugar
50g butter
Chocolate sauce
METHOD
1. Place the biscuits in the bowl of a food processor and process them until finely crushed. Add the butter and process until well combined.
2. Divide the biscuit mixture among six-round 8cm (base measurement) fluted tart tins with removable bases.
3. Use the back of a metal spoon to firmly press the biscuit mixture over the base and side of each tin. Place in the fridge until required.
4. To make the caramel filling, place condensed milk, sugar, and butter in a medium saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon, for 10-12 minutes or until caramel thickens (do not boil).
5. Pour the hot caramel evenly among biscuit bases. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for 3 hours to chill.
6. Peel and thinly slice bananas, and arrange over the caramel filling. Top pies with a dollop of cream, grated chocolates, and chocolate Sauce.
