Ingredients

4 cups Boiled or Steamed Rice
½ cup boiled peas
2 medium sized Onions
1 big green capsicum
½ cup finely chopped Coriander Leaves
1 small chopped tomato
6-7 cloves of chopped Garlic
1 tbsp Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
8-10 chopped cashew nuts
3 tbsp Butter Or Oil
2 Green Chilies chopped finely
1 t/s Turmeric (Haldi)
2 t/s Pav Bhaji Masala
1 tbsp Garam Masala
½ t/s Red Chili Powder
Salt as per taste

    Tawa Pulao is a term which all Mumbaikar’s are aware of. I am sure there will be not a single person in Mumbai who is not aware of this Tawa pulao. It is an absolute flavorsome rice which is sold in every nook and corner of Mumbai. It is instantly cooked with vegetables and tossed with Indian spices. I walked down to the corner of my street to taste this Tawa Pulao and I watched the bhaiyaji preparing it and could not stop myself from trying it at home. It is so easy and quick to fix. You can also make this from left over plain rice. It can be hands on recipe for Bachelors or someone who is constantly on the go and still wants to have some tasty food at the end of the day. It is a one pot meal and can be best relished with vegetable or boondi raita. It an absolute lip-smacking rice dish.

    Method

    Take a pan and add butter or oil. Once it is hot add cumin seeds and when they crackle stir in chopped Garlic and cashew nuts. Sauté for a minute on low fire.
    Now add chopped Onions and capsicums. Sauté until they are crispy and golden brown.
    Now add the chopped tomatoes and boiled peas. Wait until tomatoes water dries up.
    Add pav bhaji masala and all the other spices and stir well.
    Let the vegetable cook for 2 to 3 mins. Combine well with a spoon very carefully. Once all the masalas and vegetables blend well its time to add the rice.
    Add steamed rice little by little by gently stirring in. When all rice is mixed well with the Masalas and veggies after 3 mins. Switch off the stove and garnish the Tawa pulao with some fresh coriander leaves.
    Serve hot with Papad or Raita.

    Notes-You can make this pulav from left over rice.
    You can also add potatoes and paneer to this pulao.Try making this on a gig tawa if you have it at home.Pav Bhaji masala is an essential masala for Tawa pulao as that’s how the bhaiyajis make it here in Mumbai.
