Channa Sundal is a dry munching dish mainly prepared with chickpeas. Moreover, the addition of coconut and spices elevates the taste of this Sundal.

Chickpea Sundal is one of the traditional South Indian dish mainly made during Navratri as prasad or Naivedyam. Moreover, it tastes good and it’s nutritious as well.
Channa Sundal | Chickpea Sundal
Ingredients
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 2 tsp Urad dal
- 1 tsp asafoetida | hing
- 1-2 red dry chilies
- 6-7 curry leaves
- 1 cup boiled chickpeas
- 1- inch jaggery piece
- 1 tsp tamarind extract
- ¼ th cup fresh grated coconut
- salt as per taste
Instructions
- Firstly, heat oil in a Kadai and add urad dal and mustard seeds/rai in it.
- Let the urad dal turn brown in color and mustard seeds crackle.
- Now add curry leaves, dry red chilies, and hing and fry for 20 seconds.
- Add boiled chickpeas in the Kadai and mix well.
- Also add a piece of jaggery, little water, and cook for 3-4 minutes stirring in between.
- Finally, add tamarind extract, mix well, and switch off the flame.
- Lastly, add freshly grated coconut and mix everything well.

Step-by-Step Recipe of Channa Sundal
Method:

Important Notes and Tips:
- You can use coconut oil for making this Sundal.
- Jaggery and Tamarind adds a unique South Indian flavor. However, you can omit these 2 ingredients and make this recipe at home.
- You can store this in the refrigerator for a maximum of 2 days.
