Boondi raita is a yogurt based side dish with fried boondi’s in it. It is sweet, salty and spicy with crunch of boondis. It is very easy to prepare and goes very well with Biryani, pulav and stuffed parathas.
For those who are not aware Boondi’s are small tiny balls that are deep fried made from gram flour. You usually get ready made boondi packets in the shop. There are many flavors that are available like spicy boondi, masala boondi, sweet bondi. salty boondi etc. For this raita I have used Plain and salted boondi as it pairs well with the spicy yogurt.
You can totally avoid sugar in this recipe and add more spices like bhuna jeera, dry mint powder etc. It totally depends on your taste buds. At my house we all like sweet, salty and spicy along with fresh coriander leaves and pomegranate seeds. Well I have directly added boondi in the raita and not soaked it. We all prefer the crunch of the boondi while having this raits. If you prefer melt in mouth boondi’s in the raita , then soak boondi in warm water for 5 minutes, later squeeze all the water out and add in the yogurt. Do try this along with your next meal.
Take a bowl, add sugar, chilled yogurt, salt and whisk it very well till it is smooth and lump free.
Add chat masala, Red chili powder and boondi in the bowl and mix well.
