This Tamilian style Bistro ” Tanjore Tiffin Toom” is a new place at the plush area of Bandra, Pali Hill. It’s the best place to experience unique Tamil style food in a very classy way.
Being true to its name, this place serves traditional, simple, home-style food that has been passing over generations. The menu here is limited yet comprises of simple and authentic dishes from the south.
The names of the dishes are also very interesting and it denotes the names of the women in the South. It is interesting to read their menu.
They have good options to select from for vegetarians as well as nonvegetarians. The staff guys here are extremely polite, courteous, and friendly. They know their job very well and were also interacting with all customers and helping them select the dishes. Miss Poojita was extremely helpful and cheerful.
The ambiance here is very beautiful and one cannot stop to look around. The cool color combinations with bright chandeliers, soothing wall paintings, plants all around make this place a class apart.
The highlight of this place is the mini sample thali that they serve before your main course. They serve Samplers of all the gravies and rice varieties that are there in the menu. One of the staff guys will explain all the dishes with the ingredients and other details, give you a spoon to taste all the items in that sample thali and as per your likings, you can select the dish you want to order. This way we exactly know the dishes we are ordering and don’t end up wasting the food.
This is what we had tried:-
Cocktails
Garden Galata vodka
Tamil sunrise
I liked both the cocktails, very soothing and refreshing.
Appetizers
Yam cutlet
This was very different, well. Cooked and loved the flavors here. The chutney served along with this was also very tempting.
Arbi ghee roast
One of the special dishes here. Tried it and liked it.
Mini gunpowder idlis
One of the best gunpowder idlis I have eaten to date. Soft and pillowy mini idlis served with fresh green coconut chutney. Highly recommend this here.
Mains
Vegetable stew with Appam
Appams were really yummy and paired well with the stew.
Malabar parotta
Crispy, fluffy, and flaky parotta. That I have never eaten it before, it was so good.
Paneer Chettinad
A dash of spicy pepper and onion gravy that is one of the south specially made with paneer was one of the best order. So try this here, pairs well with parotta.
Meenakshi vatha kolumbu
Tangy, spicy sambhar like gravy that was finger-licking and pared well with subtle and mild coconut rice.
Sweet dish
Mysore Pak
Nice and soft.
Payasam
Loved this creamy and traditional Tamil sweet dish.
Sweet Rum Pongal
A unique Rum based Pongal served with lemon cheesecake. Was different and unique
Try this if you have a thing for Rum.
Overall, a super experience here, and will highly recommend this place for indulging in traditional Tamilan food with elan. Full scores for food, hospitality, and ambiance.
